Supplies:

  • 2 Terra Cotta Clay Saucers
  • Paint Brush
  • Hot Glue Gun and Glue
  • 1 Nautical Cotton Rope
  • Scissors
  • Waverly Chalk Paint in Ocean and Pool (or any other acrylic chalk paint)

Tips for Making Coastal Coasters

These tips will help you avoid common mistakes and create coasters that are both beautiful and functional.

First, when painting your saucers, make sure to apply an even coat of paint and let it dry completely before adding a second coat. This will ensure that the paint adheres properly to the surface of the terra cotta and doesn’t flake or chip off over time.

Second, when attaching the rope to the saucers, make sure to use a hot glue gun and apply enough glue to securely hold the rope in place. It’s also important to work in small sections and press down firmly on the rope as you go to ensure that it stays in place and doesn’t unravel.

Third, when trimming the rope at the end of each row, make sure to use sharp scissors and cut the rope as close to the glue line as possible. This will give your coasters a clean and professional look.

Finally, to make your coasters more durable and resistant to spills, you can apply a clear coat of acrylic sealer to the surface once the paint and glue have dried. This will provide an additional layer of protection and help your coasters last longer.
