Homemade American Flag Mason Jars

What better way to celebrate America’s birthday than with cute American flag mason jars? I’m loving how cute these little guys turned out!

Though not waterproof, they’d make a cute addition to any front porch, especially in July. 🙂

Patriotic Cricut Crafts

Show your red, white, and blue, stars n stripes pride! You can use these patriotic mason jars as utensil holders for your summer BBQs, or even to hold a bouquet of flowers in the middle of your dining room table.

And yes, kids can help with this one! If you’re looking for patriotic crafts for the kids, this is a good one. Obviously be careful with littles around the glass, though. 🙂

So, what do you need to make this cute July 4th mason jar Cricut craft idea? I’ve got you!

Tips for crafting with mason jars

Use this stars and strips cut file for the best results. It was designed specifically for this craft so you know it’ll turn out right!

Use the best sticker paper to cut your stripes and stars out. The last thing you want to do is use the cheap stuff that doesn’t work as well, or you end up throwing away because it’s crap.

Thoroughly clean your mason jars. Sometimes they sit for a while, get dusty, or have old food in them. Clean them inside and out. 🙂

Seal your jars if you’re going to use them outside or if they’re going to be in high-traffic areas. I like to spray my projects with shellac or cover them in glossy mod podge.

Get creative. While the American flag is traditionally red, white, and blue, there are other takes on the flag. Feel free to get creative with your designs. I love this rainbow flag. I also super love this yarn-wrapped patriotic mason jar. Mix it up!

Why I love mason jar crafts

My mother-in-law collected mason jars. She canned everything but also had tons of empty ones, so I knew I could always grab some for my crafts whenever I wanted.

I love mason jar crafts because not only do they remind me of her and her hoarding of all the jars, but because they’re economical to create – almost everyone has mason jars laying around! What better way to use them than to create a recycled craft?

If you don’t have a bunch of jars sitting around waiting to be crafted with, put a message out on Facebook and see if anyone local has some. Chances are, you’ll find an old lady that says “me!!” and she will let you come raid her collection.

Worst case scenario, you can buy mason jars for about a buck apiece, which is cheap enough that you could make these and sell them for $15+ a set and still make a good profit.

Materials

  • 2 Mason Jars
  • Acrylic Paint in Blue and Red
  • Modpodge (or other craft sealant)
  • White Sticker Paper (full sheet)
  • Cut Files for the Stars and Stripes

Tools

  • Cricut Explore Air 2 or similar
  • Paintbrush

Instructions

  1. Paint the top half of one mason jar blue. Allow paint to dry.
  2. Paint the entirety of the other mason jar red and the bottom half of the first jar red.
  3. Load cut files to Cricut Design Space and cut out the stars and stripes from the white sticker paper.
  4. Carefully apply the stickers to the mason jars with the stars on the blue part of the first mason jar and the stripes on the bottom of the first jar and the entirety of the second jar. I placed mine apart evenly, using the width of the white sticker stripe as my guide for how wide to leave the space between.
  5. Coat both jars in a thin coat of sealant and enjoy!
