Making Your Own Stain Remover

This stain remover is budget-friendly, with most supplies easily found at Dollar Tree – or you may already have them on hand.

Whether it’s a ketchup mishap or a muddy disaster, this stain remover will have your clothes looking fresh in no time. Ready to whip up a bottle? Let’s go!

Supplies:

I used a small plastic spray bottle (you can get a set of 3 from Dollar Tree)

Funnel (you don’t need one but it is easier when trying to pour into the small bottle)

Castile Soap (I use Dr. Bronner’s)

Hydrogen Peroxide (I got mine from the Dollar Tree)

Tablespoon for measuring

Tips

Here are a few quick tips to make your DIY stain remover even better:

  • Test First – Always test the stain remover on a small, hidden area of fabric first, just to make sure it doesn’t cause any discoloration. Better safe than sorry!
  • Use Right Away – Stains are easier to remove when they’re fresh. As soon as a spill happens, grab your stain remover and saturate the spot. Letting it sit for too long could make the stain harder to lift.
  • Double Up – If you’re dealing with a stubborn stain, let the remover sit a bit longer (up to 10 minutes) before washing. For really tough stains, you can repeat the process as needed!
  • Reusable Bottle – Since this stain remover is easy to make, keep a small spray bottle handy for quick access. You can wash and refill it as needed—super convenient and eco-friendly!
  • Shake Before Use – The ingredients can settle in the bottle, so give it a good shake before each use to make sure everything is well mixed for maximum stain-fighting power.

Create an effective DIY stain remover using just a few household ingredients. It’s easy to make, budget-friendly, and works wonders on tough stains without harsh chemicals.

Active Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes

Materials

  • Small plastic spray bottle
  • Castile Soap
  • Hydrogen Peroxide

Tools

  • Funnel
  • Tablespoon for measuring

Instructions

  1. Measure 2 Tablespoons of Castille soap and pour into the funnel into the small bottle
  2. Next fill the remainder of the bottle with hydrogen peroxide
  3. Place the cap tightly back onto the bottle and shake to mix it all together
  4. I tried this on a grass stain and it worked really well. Saturate the stain well and then let it sit for about 5 minutes before placing it in the washing machine.

Notes

Storage Tip: Keep your spray bottle in a cool, dark place to ensure the hydrogen peroxide stays effective. Exposure to light can weaken its stain-fighting power over time.
