Tips for Making Your Dollar Tree Grinch Wreath

Transforming your door with the Grinch’s mischievous charm is simpler than you might expect. Here are some expert tips to help you craft the perfect Grinch wreath and make your holiday décor stand out.

When it comes to crafting the perfect DIY Grinch wreath, colors play a crucial role in capturing that iconic mischievous charm. Focus on the Grinch’s signature hues—green, red, and a touch of white. Let green take center stage, mimicking the Grinch’s fuzzy exterior, while red and white serve as festive accents to echo the classic Christmas palette.

For a polished look, use sharp fabric shears when cutting the red velvet scarf, ensuring clean edges that neatly wrap around the wreath form. If the scarf includes pom-poms, consider saving them for other holiday crafts—they make fun additions to other decorations!

For an extra touch of whimsy, make the Grinch’s fingers extra long and thin, adding wire inside the faux fur to mold and pose them just right. This will really emphasize his sneaky, mischievous character. Finish off the look by using the white fur from a Santa hat as a cuff around the Grinch’s arm—this adds a festive contrast that perfectly complements the green and red theme of your wreath.

With these tips, you’ll craft a Grinch wreath that transforms your holiday décor with playful, cheeky charm!

Materials

  • Large Dollar Tree Candy Cane Wreath form
  • Dollar Tree red velvet scarf (mine had pom poms on the ends)
  • Bright Green Faux Fur
  • Large Red ornament
  • Santa Hat (to use the white section to make the santa arm)

Tools

  • Hot glue Gun/ glue sticks
  • Permanent marker or pen
  • X-acto knife or razor blade
  • Scissors

Instructions

  1. Gather your supplies
  2. Start by cutting off one of the ends of the scarf (where the pom pom ball is)
  3. Slide the scarf over the candy cane wreath form. Trim off the excess fabric.
  4. On both ends fold over the excess fabric and hot glue in place. Watch your fingers as sometimes the hot glue can seep through
  5. Flip over the faux fur and trace your hand on it making the fingers have more of a point. I used a thin sharpie but a pen would work also
  6. Using the razor blade or x-acto knife score the faux fur so you are only cutting the backing. This can take a few swipes across the fabric. Then flip over the fabric and push the faux fur together to make it look like fingers
  7. Add some hot glue to the end of the wreath and press the faux fur on top.
  8. I then cut the bottom section of the santa hat to make the end of the arm look like a jacket. I just eye balled the length but measuring it is about 7 inches. Then hot glue around the end of the candy can wreath form over the green faux fur.
  9. I then hot glued two of the fingers together with the string from the ornament in the middle to secure it in place.
