Tips for Making Key Lime Exfoliating Soap

Soap making is all about precise measurements, so be sure to measure your ingredients accurately. Use a digital scale to weigh out your melt & pour soap, jojoba oil, and other ingredients, as this will ensure that your soap turns out perfectly every time.

To make the best possible soap, be sure to use high-quality ingredients. Look for unscented melt & pour soap, key lime scented oil, and jojoba oil from reputable suppliers. This will help ensure that your soap has a nice texture and scent.

Soap making can be a bit time-consuming, so be patient and allow each layer to harden completely before moving on to the next. If you rush the process, you may end up with a lumpy or uneven soap.

When adding mica colorants to your soap, be sure to mix them in thoroughly. You don’t want any clumps or streaks in your soap, as this can make it look less appealing.

To prevent bubbles from forming in your soap, be sure to spray each layer with rubbing alcohol before pouring the next layer. This will help the layers stick together and prevent unsightly bubbles from forming.

While this recipe calls for key lime scented oil and citrus peel, you can experiment with different scents and exfoliants to create your own unique soap. Try adding lavender essential oil or oatmeal for a soothing, exfoliating soap. For more soap making ideas and tips make sure to check out our ultimate guide to soap making!

  • Spray Bottle with Rubbing Alcohol
  • 1 Large and 1 Medium Size Mixing Bowl
  • Microwave Safe Measuring Cup
  • Electric Hand Mixer
  • Piping Bag with Large Star Tip
  • Lime Zester

Instructions

  1. Gather your supplies.
  2. In a microwave safe measuring cup, add 6 ounces of the clear melt & pour soap. Heat in 20 second bursts. Stir in between each. Continue until completely melted.
  3. Spray each cavity of the mold with the rubbing alcohol. Pour just enough soap into each cavity until it covers the bottom. Set the soap aside. Sprinkle enough of the citrus peel to cover the bottom of each cavity. Allow the soap to harden.
  4. Once the soap is hard, spray each cavity with the rubbing alcohol. Pour another thin layer over the citrus peel, just enough to cover it. Allow the soap to harden.
  5. Add the remaining clear soap to the measuring cup and melt as directed in Step 1. Mix in the key lime scented oil and Jojoba oil.
  6. Add 1 teaspoon of the mica colorant. Mix well. If you want a darker color, add ½ teaspoon of mica colorant until desired shade is achieved.
  7. Spray each cavity of the mold with the rubbing alcohol. Add soap mixture to the mold, just before reaching the top of each cavity. Spray again with the rubbing alcohol. Allow to harden completely.
  8. Add the goat milk soap to a microwave safe container and melt as directed in Step 1. Repeat in a separate container for the whipped soap.
  9. Add the melted whipped soap and glycerin to a medium size mixing bowl. Using an electric mixer, mix on medium speed for 1 minute. Mix on high for an additional minute or until it becomes light and fluffy.
  10. Mix in the cornstarch and melted goat milk soap.
  11. Quickly add soap frosting to the prepared piping bag. Frost each soap.
  12. Add a bit of grated lime zest (if desired). Gently pop the soaps from the mold and enjoy!
