Tips for Making Homemade Cleaning Wipes

Here are a few quick tips to make your DIY non-toxic cleaning wipes even better:

  • Customize Your Scent – While lemon is a classic, you can mix it up! Try lavender for a calming vibe, or tea tree oil for extra antibacterial power.
  • Double Duty Cloths – I love using the Dollar Tree wash cloths because they have two sides: one for scrubbing and one for wiping. They’re durable, and the scrubby side really helps with those tougher messes. Bonus: they’re machine washable!
  • Adjust for Your Needs – If you’re cleaning bigger messes, you can easily double the recipe for the cleaning solution. Just make sure your cloths are fully soaked so they can work their magic.
  • Storage Matters – Make sure your container seals well to keep the wipes from drying out. A snap-lid container works wonders and helps lock in the freshness of the essential oils.
  • Reuse and Refresh – Once you’ve used the wipes, toss them in the wash and add them right back into the solution. When the mixture runs low, just whip up another batch, and you’re good to go.

Make your own reusable, non-toxic cleaning wipes with just a few simple ingredients. Customize the scent, save money, and keep your home fresh and chemical-free!

Total Time 11 minutes
Difficulty Easy

Materials

  • Rubbing Alcohol (I got mine from the dollar tree)
  • Castile Soap
  • Distilled Water (you can make this on the stove, or buy some. I have also used regular tap water and the wipes have worked the same)
  • Essential Oil (I chose to use lemon as I like that scent for cleaning)
  • Wash cloths (I got mine from the dollar tree, as I like that they have a scrubber side and a fabric side, I got 4 packs and there were 2 cloths in each pack so a total of 8)
  • Container (I got mine from Dollar Tree)

Tools

  • Measuring cup and measuring spoon (Tablespoon)

Instructions

  1. Measure 1 cup of rubbing alcohol into a measuring cup and add to the large container.
  2. Add 1 cup of water (distilled or non distilled) to the container
  3. Add 3 Tablespoons of castile soap to the mixture
  4. Drop about 30 drops of essential oil.

Notes

I stirred the mixture to combine all of the ingredients using the tablespoon (less to clean later!) and then added the wash cloths.

If this mixture does not cover the wash cloths completely, you can add more water and rubbing alcohol (I would double the measurements).

Once these are used you can add them back to the solution and once the solution is all used up, you can add more of the ingredients to the container. These work well on all surfaces!
